Why are you asking for my personally identifiable information to set up banking?

  • Updated

It's important to protect your personal information.

The Copper card is issued by Evolve Bank & Trust, member FDIC, pursuant to license by Mastercard International.

Banks and other financial institutions are required by federal law (The US Patriot Act) to properly identify customers prior to opening a bank account. This is in place to prevent fraud and money laundering.

Similar to many banking institutions, we use an active (not expired or temporary) United States Driver’s License or U.S. state ID card (issued by the DMV) with a social security number, and your physical address verification to confirm your identity.

We do this at the time of sign-up, or after activation if potentially fraudulent activity is detected. This identity check is not a credit check and will not affect your credit in any way.

Once you have completed the identity verification process successfully, you will be able to complete the account activation process with Copper.
